You might be wondering what this picture is….. it was our together time this afternoon. My 5 year old and I took her piggy bank, dumped it on a towel on the table & rolled coins.
It’s just one way, aside from coupons, she can learn about the value of a buck. We do this every other month – she usually has quite a lot in the stash. Dave & I keep our change on an daily basis and each of us tosses the change in a piggy bank every night at the side of the bed (on our nightstands). Each of the kids has 1, but Wendy had some coins rolling around in her Barbie ATM.
Today I cleaned the truck so I found all kinds of coins stuffed in seats, in the cup holder, in the crevice of the car seat and even under floor mats.
Believe it or not, that change does add up fast. We roll it, put it in a plastic Tupperware container and drive to the bank (well, sometime this week, more than likely Friday). She puts hers in her account and my 2 year old holds my hand while I put his on the counter.
My daughter says she’s saving for a Red Honda. I’m not sure she’ll get there in 11 years but hey, worth a shot! Are we the only ones who “roll” our coins?

This is funny. I also rolled my coins today. I also put them into the bank.

We roll them! We just have a jar that all of our change goes into. When it gets full we roll it up (about once a year) and it usually pays for our family vacation. Last time, it paid for a big chunk of our disney land trip! Why the heck not?!

I keep all my change and throw it in a pickle jar for my son. On payday I give him all of my tips that are left after dinner. Wwe had to raid it a bit this week, but he has abiut $80.

We roll it every so often as well. We don’t use cash often, but it still adds up! Probably about $100-$200 a year… for not using cash often I think that is pretty good.

I save my change in a jar and when it is full I take it to the credit union and put it in the coin counter. My days of rolling are over! The counter does it all, gives me a slip and I take it to the teller. It is like coinstar, but fee for members.

I’m new to this idea — what’s a freapy way to get the coin sleeves?
AJ says
…ask your bank. Or, if you want a gift card, find a “CointStar” machine. ONLY get the gift card. If you get a store voucher, a small portion of your full amount is deducted as a service charge. Website…. http://www.coinstar.com :)AJ

Just walk into the bank & ask – mine gives them free.

we roll every year
AJ says
I actually use my change. I asked dh if he still throw coins in our jar. He said he rarely uses cash. I just looked in the jar… I could roll! I’m on xmas vacation one more week, so I’ll add it to my list of things to do this week. :)AJ

We also roll our coins, we use it to go camping for 9 day’s every summer. We have not been able to go the last two summer because of my husbands health problems, so we used it to pay two bills this summer. Our goal is to go this summer.

After about 5 years of saving my change (putting into a jar every night). I actually had enough saved for a down payment on a house. Wow was I surprised

We also save all of our coins and put them in a jar on our dresser. At the end of the week I put them in my daughters piggy bank. We haven’t rolled yet but I think I will need to soon, she already has 1 piggy bank full. Until they are old enough to understand what money is(oldest is 2) I will just split it in half and put it in each of my daughters checking accounts.

We take our jar of coins to the ft mcdowell casino. They “count” them for free at change counter and give u full cash value back in dollar bills!!!!!!!
Wendy says
I roll our coins! Its amazing how fast change adds up.

Midwest bank will count your coins for free at their machine (similar to CoinStar); the only catch is that they sometimes want to tell you about their latest deal on opening a new account (I missed out on a $100 bonus for opening a new account). We don’t bank there and we only have it exchanged for bills about once or twice year. I think they have great customer service for someone who’s not a member of their bank.

We save our change a big mug. I work for a bank, so right before we go on vacation, I take it to work and exchange it for cash and that’s what we use for spending money.

I roll my coins. The last time I brought them to the bank- the manager told me they will no longer accept rolled coins and to just use Coinstar next time. :(
mishiru says
We keep all our change and we put $20 dollars a week aside from every pay check we end up with a couple thousand in a year. It pays for us to go on vacation!
Kelly says
We roll the change in my daughters bank also. We do make her tithe to the church on the total so at least she will have the concept. She actually gets excited to put her little bag of coins in the offering plate. She also thinks she is big stuff when she goes to the bank and puts it in her account. I hope she learns saving at an earlier age than I did. LOL!!

When I was married my husband and I were having problems and it looked like divorce wasn’t too far off, so I opened a credit union account and started saving my change, that account eventually paid for my divorce. :) All funded with change.
