I’m not sure about you, but I have an OVERabundance of aspirin in my house. I mean, FREE Excedrin and all. So what do we do with all of it? Any ideas?
Reader Susan gave me a GREAT idea for us ladies – to help us improve our skin AND get rid of some of that aspirin!
Have you ever heard of making a “facial mask” with aspirin? Yep Yep! Not only is it cheap, it’s a great softening, acne-fighting treatment that is simple, and effective. Brightens your skin. No more looking dull.
The effective ingredient in aspirin is salycic acid – which helps exfoliate your skin. With that in mind, lets get busy!
What you need:
- Four or five aspirin pills – they MUST be uncoated (Advil, Tylenol and Aleve WON’T WORK!!)
- 1-2 Tablespoons of lukewarm water
- Honey or plain yogurt (not required, just optional)
Mix the aspirin with just enough water to make a paste. If you want a thicker mask, add a dollop of honey; if you prefer a more soothing mask, some plain yogurt can do the trick. Apply the mask in a thin layer on your face, then allow it to dry. Remove it by rubbing in gentle circular motions. Voila! Your skin should feel like you just left the spa! Spa day on the FREAP!
Note: I am not a dermotologist or medical professional. I have done this aspirin mask and it works great on my skin.
Thanks Susan!!

This works because Aspirin’s base is Salicylic Acid, similar to what you can find OTC in the store. So, if you have conditions such as Rosacea in which you want to avoid Salicylic Acid (promotes blood vessels) or are pregnant, you don’t want to use this.
