If you have been reading my site for the last few years, you may have seen me occasionally my homemade cleaner recipes, and other random posts about my experience with Essential Oils.
I have been using Essential Oils since the end of 2013 ~ I was nursing my 4th child (she was 4 months at the time)… and my menstrual cycle came back VERY early. I did not have that issue with the first 3… so I wasn’t sure why it happened with the 4th.
I’m guessing a number of factors – stress in my case… the ordeal halted my milk production. It was important to me to continue to breastfeed – so I knew I needed to find an avenue to make that magic happen so I could nurse again.
Until that point I had never an issue with milk production .. the whole ordeal was really stressful for me.
One of my close friends used Essential Oils and helped me find one that stimulated my milk production to come back (Fennel Oil).. and within a mere 2-3 days I was back to normal.
After doing a few more weeks of my own reading and exploring on Essential Oils, I noticed that there was a distinct difference between those you buy at the store (Sprouts for example) and those that I had already picked up – which were Therapeutic Grade.
What are Therapeutic Grade Oils?
Therapeutic Grade Oils are VERY different in qualify from those you purchase in any grocery store (or, in some cases, Oils you buy on Amazon).
I have a few really close friends that introduced me to Young Living Oils .. and how they were using them for their family and how I could incorporate them at home for David’s emotional stressors, my headaches, constant state of being “tired”, and better overall health.
Many companies market oil as “Pure” – which means that only a SMALL percentage of the oil (as low as 5%) comes from the plant in the bottle. Many companies use some pretty extraordinary methods to extract oil from plants, with very few actually involved in the real process – even worse, I’d say MOST people may not realize this and just assume that Oils are ALL the same.
I know I had no clue before I started reading what all the differences were… so I assume most are probably like me.
When Choosing Essential Oils..
If you are looking at getting into Essential Oils, there are a lot of different areas you want to look at before making the leap.
Don’t assume that they are all the same… after what we mentioned above, you can really get a huge variance in quality depending on where you go.
What to Look For:
- Can the company guarantee that they land used to grow their plants & herbs is free of pesticides, chemicals & herbicides?
- Does the Company own their own lab to test the oil’s composition?
- Does the company purchase oils from outside suppliers? If they do, then do they visit to observe the process (ie. make sure that chemicals are not added & that plants are grown free of herbicides, pesticides & more)?
- Does the company’s suppliers use extra solvents during the distillation process to extract additional oil from plants?
- Does the company guarantee that nothing is added to the oils during bottling?
- Does the company work with local governments to ensure that plants are not over harvested and/or are harvest legally?
- If mistakes were made during distillation, can the company guarantee the oils are discarded and not sold?
- Does the company use crops ONLY harvested during peak time?
Young Living was the only company that has their own farms guarantee that no pesticides or herbicides are using in growing their oil, they do their testing with their own equipment, and they are in charge of their own essential oil farming operations.
Even better, if you sign up as a Wholesale Member, you can get a discount of 24% on your orders, provided you purchase $50 In products per year.
Since we use so many in our house that was the best option for me – because I wanted the discount over non-discount – who wouldn’t?
Using your Oils
Over the last year and a half we have really taken the Oily Leap to incorporate Essential Oils into many things here for our family – from skin relief cream to relief from stress and anxiety associated with Military deployment, to helping to relieve sickness in our children, and more.
The best part of Young Living is that they allow anyone who signs up as a wholesale member to get the Wholesale Discount (24%) – you don’t have to sell any oils, and you only have to spend $50 per year.
Should you wish to pick up where I am and score Oils at Wholesale you need to buy a starter kit – my favorite starter kit is this one pictured above.
What is included:

If you wish to turn this into a business you can use your EIN from the IRS; otherwise, use your Social Security Number.
And pick up the starter kit of your choice –I recommend the premium kit which is $150 (50% OFF)..
Then….Skip Step 3 (which is optional).
Then I will ALSO mail you a super helpful Essential Oils 400 pg. Reference Guide – a $17 value (you can look up almost anything in it and see which oils have been used to help with that problem), a set of essential oil labels to keep your oils organized, AND a $20 Target Gift Card, in addition to a 15ml Bottle of Orange Essential Oil.
Should you recommend or pass this along to friends who want to pick up the Wholesale discount & starter kit, please let me know so I can help you get credit for referring them!
After you buy the kit do you have to do anything else?
If you pick up the kit as a wholesale member, you have no other requirement than to just buy $50 in oils each year (MUCH better than paying FULL retail price!)

I got my starter kit early last year and it was the best investment I’ve ever made! I’m so glad we decided to take the leap as the kit has more than paid for itself with saved visits to the doctor for minor issues. This is one sweet deal you’re offering!!!

Before I go through signing up how much is it? I’m interested but won’t have the $$ until later in the week.

I started using YL oils a couple of months ago and since starting I haven’t had to use my anxiety meds once for panic attacks (I got them really really bad – multiple times a day), I’ve been able to sleep through the night for after 30 years of insomnia, my five year old son, who hasn’t slept through the night since birth and wakes up 5-6 times a night, now rarely wakes up at night, and if he does its once and he’s usually back asleep within 5 minutes. My husband, who is a huge skeptic now regularly asks me to oil him up when he gets headaches, allergies, stressed out…it’s been amazing. I highly recommend trying these out – and the bonuses of the support you get with sheryl is seriously amazing. She’s always available for questions and to help you out! Can’t say enough good things about these oils and sheryl.
