It’s hard to believe that a few years ago, I never used Essential Oils.. now, I don’t think I could go a day without them.
For the last few years I have had Essential Oil in every glass of water – for someone who once could NOT drink water, now I can’t “not” drink water. I left for the park with the kids earlier in the week and forgot my water cup, and had to drink a bottle of water from the case we keep in the trunk (for emergencies) and I have never hated water so much.
My body has adjusted to the great taste of my oily infused water and if I had to go back to regular bottled water I think I might struggle.
When we travel, our oils go with us – and they are a HUGE part of our trips. In this post we are talking specifically Road Trips – I haven’t flew {yet} with oils … flying with 6 of us (soon to be 7) is incredibly expensive. So we drive. And we drive everywhere. And honestly, I think I’d rather drive with 4 kids, it’s less hassle.
Our oils have been to Minnesota, California (3 times), ALL over Arizona to Prescott, Sierra Vista, Tombstone, and all the way out to Yuma. They have been to Kansas City, and even New Mexico… they have saved me on more than one occasion. Here are our trips on Road-Tripping with Essential Oils.
#1 – Invest in a Carrying Case
They are not that expensive when you consider that they are holding some powerful little bottles. I have a large case that holds 30, and a smaller case that goes in my purse at all times... I also have a key chain carrier that’s perfect for sharing oils on the go.
Take a step further, and I have a Luci Bag that holds my oils every day when I go somewhere too. So no matter where I go, I always have my amazing bottles with me.
#2 – Road Trips are GREAT with Essential Oils
Not only can Peppermint help you focus for long periods of driving … Purification is GREAT for keeping odors at bay in the car. With 4 kids, and shoes that slip on and off, those feet can emit some stinky smells. … Take a glass spray bottle (see HERE) with 4 oz water + 10 drops of Purification for air freshener you can keep in the vehicle (that’s NOT toxic).
#3 – Diffuse On the Trip (and That’s not Limited to the Hotel)
We have a portable diffuser we keep in the car (similar to THIS one), that is plugged into our Power Converter. We always try to diffuse Thieves to keep the yuckies at bay. And our Young Living Home Diffuser comes with us on EVERY overnight trip to go in the hotel room – it’s ice to have that option at night when the kids are trying to wind down, Peace and Calming works wonders as does Lavender.
You can also pick up an ORB Diffuser for the car, and if your passenger does any work in the car as the driver is working on getting you to your end destination, then a USB diffuser works just as well, too.
We put together a list of items that are essential for ANY person who loves Essential Oils – we have a few items (including a diffuser) on our list.
#4 – Don’t forget your Carrier Oil!
Some oils will need to be diluted before applying to the body, and having a carrier oil is really a necessity in these cases. You can use Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, or V6 Carrier Oil – whatever works best for you. I usually take my entire pump of V6 Carrier Oil, but you can also fill an empty oil bottle with “only” carrier if you are short on space.
Don’t understand what a carrier oil is? You can read more about them here.
My Must Have Oils for Traveling
I err on the side of caution when taking my oils, so I usually end up taking more than I need. But that’s okay because I’d rather be over prepared than underprepared…
These are the oils I tend to grab first..
Lavender Oil – this is a must with children. It’s great for SO many things, it’s hard not to just throw it in there. It’s great for seasonal relief, for relaxing, and the perfect way to help my littles rest at night. We also put a single drop in their bath water and it works to help calm them down before bed.
Peppermint Oil is great for helping to improve your focus on the trip. When you have a long drive ahead of you, it’s a great way to stay alert. Likewise, it’s also great to support digestion – in many cases, you may end up eating something that may not have gone down too easy.. this is a perfect oil to add to a drop of water.
Deep Relief – as we get older, we find that our body is not quite as able to do the same things it used to. Deep Relief is great to help you feel better if you have been on your feet all day, carried too many heavy bags, etc.
Frankincense and Oregano Essential Oils ~ These go together with me everywhere. Frankincense is great for immune support, as is Oregano. It’s also works well for skincare products too.
Lemon Essential Oil goes with me everywhere I go. In my purse, to every restaurant, in every glass of water I drink. It’s a great way to support the inner workings of the body and keep them in nice working order, which can be hard to do on trip. Read about how Lemon water is great to support your digestive system.
DiGize ~ a must for digestive support and tummy trouble. Never leave home without having this on hand with you.
Peace & Calming Essential Oil ~ is a must for those of you who have small children. It’s great to help promote relaxation.
Stress Away Essential Oil is a wonderful source of emotional support… you can apply topically or add to your water.
RC Essential Oil ~ is one that ALWAYS goes in my Oily Pouch, especially with the kids. It’s a great way to provide respiratory support JUST in case the ids start feeling the yuckies.
Thieves Essential Oil ~ by far is the BEST oil to always have with you. Not only does it provide immune support, it works incredibly well for diffusing at night to keep the ickies away. Not only do we diffuse Thieves every night (while we travel too..) we ALSO add it with carrier oil and apply to the bottoms of the feet on the kids and down their spine before bed.
Copaiba Essential Oil ~ Although I don’t take this daily my husband does, so it MUST go in the tote. It’s great for physical discomfort, and he uses it for support with digestion.
NingXia Red – 2 oz. Single Sachets ~ they go EVERYWHERE with me.. I normally order 4 full glass bottles each month but if we are going on a road trip, it’s easier to take the packets because they are portable. This stuff is a must for me. It’s a whole body supplement with wolfberry, which is great at supporting your overall wellness (do some research on Wolfberries because they truly are amazing for you!)
I haven’t missed taking this daily and I haven’t been sick in over a year.. I’m convinced that my consistency is paying off.
Now I’ll be honest & say I usually toss in a few others (Gentle Baby, Grapefruit, etc.) just in case – I mean it’s always better to have a few extra than not enough.. right?
I LOVE and exclusively use ONLY Young Living Essential Oils – if you would like to read more about why we do, and how we started head HERE. This month we are offering a HUGE starter kit of 11 Oils + a Diffuser, PLUS $40 in freebies!
