Are you a first timer? Even if you are not we all have tricks and hacks that we use when we are the ones making the big Turkey dinner. Thanksgiving is NOT far off!
Here are a few of our favorite ones you really need to try…. some we HAVE tried and there are a few we are going to try for the first time year. All are totally worth checking out
Cook the Turkey Overnight
Yeah it’s Scary if you are obsessing over the perfect turkey but its a total time saver, especially if you prefer and earlier dinner/late lunch.
Here is a great recipe for that overnight bird. You might discover that cooking overnight is much less stressful and gives you MORE time in the morning to cook all those other items.
Wash the Potatoes in the Dishwasher
You just take your spuds and load up the dishwasher and run it through the rinse cycle. Need a visual? Head over & see this video here.
Grate Frozen Butter
This works GREAT in your biscuit dough.
If you are like me your freezer might have a good healthy supply of frozen butter, among other stuff like cream cheese and eggs (believe it or not, you CAN freeze all these items…..) There is no sense in trying to thaw it or softening it before baking with it.
Take a cheese grater and BAM! It’s done.
Not only does it incorporate better into what you are baking it also softens faster if you need to get it softened. Read here for more.
Use a Slow Cooker (or Two, or Three)…
Another great time saver especially since you can leave it on overnight along with the turkey to cook.
Use it for potatoes, cranberries, veggies or to make desserts or casseroles that you’ll be using for side dishes. (good time to insert link to slow cooker side dishes).
Also if you have a smaller one it will work great to keep the gravy warm. Crocktober is a GREAT time to grab a second or third crock pot at a discount.
Perfectly shaped biscuits
There really isn’t any need to buy a biscuit cutter unless you really want to spend on that gadget… especially given that you have PLENTY of items at home that could function just the same, for less. Right?
Dig out those wine glasses – they are perfectly shaped biscuits that will even have your mother-in-law admiring them. But hey, if you really really can’t live without biscuit cutters, pick up this set of Mrs. Anderson’s Baking Cookie Cutters (3 in total) for $5.
