The Lava River Cave is just 30 minutes away from Flagstaff, Arizona. The cave itself was formed 700,000 years ago - at that time, molten lava erupted out of nearby Harts Prairie. The cave was founded in 1915 by lumbermen in the area.

Quick Tip ~ Using Ice Cube Trays to Stockpile Eggs, DIY Mocha Coffee + More

Frugal Living

Have an old ice cube tray laying around? Put it to use – I was thinking about this today when I bought 4 dozen eggs at Fry’s ($.99/ ea.) and used my $.55/2 coupon we printed last month

I’m going back to get 2 more dozen.. I’m tired of not having eggs.. especially when I need them.

When I used to have my trays readily accessible, I did not use them for ice – which is what I feel like they were intended for. I used them for many other things. You can too –

–Freezing Eggs – just this week, Dave told me that we needed eggs; but.. he did not want to buy a full dozen since we were going to California for the weekend….. easy fix: I whipped up the eggs yesterday and put them in ice cube trays for later.

You can read more HERE about Stockpiling Eggs!

–Freezing leftover baby food – see my last post HERE

–Freezing Broth that you don’t use completely from the carton.

–Freezing my leftover pot of coffee (and then later on, I’ll throw a few cubes in the blender with Chocolate Syrup and milk for a mocha)

–Freezing your soup stock – or .. herbs left over from recipes..

–Freeze your leftover wine that you can’t finish (ha!) – use smaller portions in upcoming recipes without burning through an entire bott

–Freezing Green Chiles (I pureed mine after roasting them and froze them for later on.

You can also use them to organize your tool box…… hold little pieces of jewelry, and even make small batches of Pesto.

For those with citrus trees, these are great for freezing juice as well. I have a counterful of lemons that I can’t possibly use, so I’ll be juicing them and freezing the juice in ice cube trays so I have juice throughout the year.
