In the world of Essential Oils, roller bottles are very popular. Essential Oils in general are gaining popularity, due to their ability to solve everyday ailments naturally versus taking over the counter medicines.
Or, prescriptions.
While prescriptions and OTC’s have their place, routine use can have implications on your health. Most if not all of those items in your medicine cabinet, from sleep aids to ointment, digestion medicine or what not) can be tossed – and replaced with a few drops of essential oil, a better diet and some lifestyle changes.
But… it takes effort and due diligence.
True wellness comes from working on yourself from the inside out – no pain cream, prescription, OTC or even lotion is going to be anywhere near as effective as taking a more active role in your health beyond medicine.
Toxic build up through outside environmental factors has more of an effect on your health than many may realize..
Essential Oils are powerful – they can be used aromatically (in a diffuser); they can also be used topically – diluted with a carrier or, added to a roller bottle.
The best part about using a roller bottle is that it is pre-made – when you need to use it, you don’t have to mix up oils with a carrier in your hand. You can use them on the go – pop them in your purse, or give them to your kids to take to school.
Where to Apply Essential Oils
The bottom of the feet, wrist and behind the ears are 3 of the best places to apply essential oils to your body. The bottoms of the feet are the least sensitive part of the body – making them the perfect place to try out essential oils. When you are applying essential oils to the bottom of the feet, they are absorbed quickly because the feet have larger pores.
Since the feet are the least sensitive, they are the best place for those hot oils like Oregano, Peppermint, Thieves and Clove.
Essential oils applied to the bottoms of the feet are absorbed more quickly and therefore reach the bloodstream faster. Not to mention that the feet and hands are the only two places on the body without sebaceous glands – because of that, items applied to those areas are absorbed more quickly.
No matter where you choose to apply your oils, ensure that you avoid the eye area and avoid touching your face near your eyes when you are done using them or applying them.
Using a Roller Bottle
When you use a rollerball, you are using a pre-made mixture, added to a 5 or 10ml roller bottle. You are stretching the oil out by adding a carrier oil – and by using that carrier oil, you are not diluting the effectiveness of the oil, instead you are giving the oil greater coverage to help the oil carry itself with greater coverage.
To use a rollerball, you will need to have 5ml or 10ml roller bottles, essential oils, a carrier oil, and a list of rollerball recipes.
I prefer to use Essential Oil bottles that I have cleaned out and soaked overnight – because they are ultimately the biggest cost saver. When taking this route, you will need to buy roller fitments – which are the metal balls that snap into the top.
- Young Living sells a 10 pk of roller fitments for $10 – they are exclusively designed for Young Living Essential Oil bottles marked “SB” on the very bottom.
- If you don’t want to re-use your Essential Oil bottles, you can find 10ml Glass Roller Bottles with a metal roller on Amazon.
- You can use glass roller bottles with a plastic roller but, they tend to disintegrate with time. If you are using Citrus oils then using a metal roller is the best option.
- For children, add no more than a few drops of essential oil in a 10ml roller bottle – their skin is much more sensitive than ours and oils should be used sparingly.
- For kids: 2 drops per 10ml roller bottle (1% dilution)
- For adults: 4 drops per 10ml roller bottle (2% dilution)
- Occassional blends for adults: no more than 20 total drops in any 10ml bottle
- These Avery Labels #22806 work beautiful for Roller Bottles – plus, you can design your own and print out 1, a few, or a full sheet.

Essential Oils don’t have an expiration date; though once mixed with a carrier they can take on the expiration OF that carrier. So keep that in mind when mixing oils.
