A gracious reader in Alaska came across this .. and what a great opportunity to nominate someone you know.
Operation Top Knot helps support military families who are expecting. They are certain criteria that must be met and they like to focus on military moms with deployed spouses – or, those who are active duty service women themselves.
Top Knot is a nationwide network of service clubs and Angel individuals who sew, knit and shop to create gift baskets for infants and expectant mothers in military families.
Operation Top Knot volunteers knit, crochet, sew, quilt, and design blankets, booties, hats, onesies, bibs, and many more homemade gifts. We also assemble and deliver gift baskets full of goodies such as bottles, diapers, onesies, pacifiers, washcloths, grooming kits, and more. AND they even send bubblegum cigars to Dad wherever he is stationed.
To receive Top Knot support, a military family must meet the following criteria:
Have a deployed* parent or be an active duty military service woman AND be expecting a child or have a child under the age of two.
Please Note: the OTK team focuses on military moms with deployed spouses and those who are active-duty service women themselves. However, if you know of a new/expectant military mom who needs extra support even though her husband is NOT deployed (such as stateside/wounded/veteran), please do not hesitate to request support for her (be sure to note her special circumstances in the “Comments” box on the form).
If a family does not fill out this form themselves, they will be contacted to verify their desire to receive support.

You can help Operation Top Knot in their effort 3 different ways:

- Donate materials for fabric or knitting.
- To participate yourself you can go HERE to apply.

Thanks so much for this! Some close friends found out they are expecting their 3rd child (total surprise as she had permanent birth control) and he is leaving in 3 weeks and will not be home in time :(
