Most of you noticed that I posted a new Oil of Olay Rebate last week. Go HERE to get the form. The rebate is going to work well with the new P&G we’re getting today (WOOT!) — I suggest getting at least 4 inserts. If you don’t want to purchase them at the regular grocery store, you can also find them at the Dollar Store for $1.
Here are the rebate details:
Purchase:
$50 worth of ANY Olay, Venus, CoverGirl, Secret, Pantene, Herbal Essences and/or Clairol
Between:
11/23 – 12/31/2010; Rebate mailed by 01/14/2011
Mail:
Completed Rebate Form, Purchase Receipts with Items Circled, and write UPC codes in spaces
Deal Idea:
At CVS:
Buy 8 Pantene $3.33 ea.
= $26.64
Use (4) BOGO Pantene (11/28 PG)
Use (2) $1/2 Pantene (11/28 PG)
= $11.32 out of pocket | Earn $5 ECB
Final Price? $6.32 after coupons + ECB
Then……hit up your local Fry’s:
Buy 2 Secret Deodorant $2.29 ea.
Buy 1 Secret Deodorant $4.29 ea.
Buy 3 Olay Body Wash or Soap $5
=$23.87
Use (3) .50/1 Secret (11/28 PG)
Use (3) $5 off Body Wash wyb Secret (10/31 PG)
= $5.87 out of pocket
* I didn’t use a F&E printable because it states for “Food Items Only”. You yourself can make that determination if you feel comfortable using it on non-food items. =)
**There is also a $2 eCoupon for “Secret Flawless Renewal” on the Fry’s site HERE ~ I’m not sure how much that is…
Between the CVS Transaction ($26.64) and Fry’s ($29.16) you have spent $50.51.
You can now submit for the rebate, and earn $20, making yourself a profit of $7.81 – factoring in that you received a $5 ECB at CVS :)
NOTE: I have seen MANY folks put out scenarios on this P&G rebate. However, do understand that I have yet to see one actually “regard” the limit of the coupon:
Whether or not your store is liberal – that should not matter. The rules are the rules, and that is noted for a reason. So, in my scenarios above, I take that into account – you can still do the rebate, and get a great deal, we should be responsible consumers & play within the guidelines of the coupon.
I also noticed folks using the $5 off Body Wash coupon (making that free at Fry’s) and then stacking a $5 off lotion wyb Body Wash — I don’t feel ok doing that as you’re getting the Body Wash free, so stacking another coupon on something you’re not paying for does not sit well with me.

Buy 2 Secret Deodorant $2.29 ea.
Buy 1 Secret Deodorant $4.29 ea.
Are these different products? Confused on the pricing. TIA

yes they are. The $4.29 is the higher end one called Secret Flawless Renewal.

Remember, the store gets reimbursed by the manufacturer for the coupon – so I don't think using two coupons to make 2 items free is that bad. That is, as long as it is one manuf coupon per item and two do not apply two to the same, single item. If the store's policy is to allow it, then I am comfortable doing it. But, I definitely feel that the limits should be adhered to. They include it on the coupon for a reason.

If you're getting the Body Wash FREE, then no coupon should be used on the Lotion – easy as that. It's like using a $1/2 and a BOGO – it does not matter if the store is ok with it – I dont thin P&G intended for that.
Yes you are using one coupon per item, but you're not paying for the body wash – that's already free with the $5 coupon. If you want to get the lotion, and use that lotion coupon, then purchase the body wash for $6.49 — THEN you are actually PAYING something for the rest of the body wash. I see too many people trying to skate by — I dont think it's legit. If you want to do it, go right ahead. Will I? I'm not that desperate for a great deal. I'm STILL coming out ahead by doing things the RIGHT way. More than I can say for the other folks out there on message boards, and blogs. Just my two cents. I'd rather stick with what's right, and come out ahead, than try to skate by doing what may be in an gray area….just to be greedy.

I have to agree with Sheryl that P&G did not intend a coupon be used on the free item as well. The coupon "get x free when you buy x" is for the free item. Hence the reason they have to write in the cost of that item on the coupon.
You may not be affecting the store when use use multiple MF Q's on 1 item like that, but you are affecting the Manufacturer and their bottom line. In essence that is slowly killing the goose who lays the golden egg for you. There's a reason P&G has put the limit of 4 coupons on identical items. They need to slow folks down a bit so their profit margins aren't affected as hard. Think that doesn't matter to you and me?…wrong. If they lose profit margins they must make tough decisions, and those decisions may come in the form of cutting the amount of coupons they put out. We're already seeing a shortage of inserts in the papers. Think about it…do we really want to risk losing the tools we use to save money using such tactics? Not me. Just because I can get away with it doesn't mean I should try.

OK – Not looking to argue or to be shot at. I try very hard to use coupons with integrity, but I still respectfully disagree. I think that Sheryl is the bomb, and I am so grateful for this blog and how sharp Sheryl is in the whole coupon arena. I think that if anyone should be running around town with a crown on her head, it is she. But, with this issue I think there is a misunderstanding. Take, for example, the way this issue is specifically addressed in written store coupon policies. Take Walgreens, for example. I happen to carry that one with me at all times so that is the easiest one for me to pull out and quote from.
The 4th Section down –
"Buy One Get One Free Coupons
When items are featured in a Buy One, Get One Free Promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased"
The title of the section specifically addresses B1G1 coupons, not in-store sales. A large chain like Walgreens, would have amended that part of their policy by now if manufacturers had a problem with applying two coupons in a B1 G1 scenario. The same applies to CVS.
I would never do something that I felt was underhanded just to snag a deal. My interpretation of intended use is obviously different. Manufacturers are fully aware of what coupons they distribute during a promotion. Manufacturers have a marketing department in their home offices and those marketing execs are intentional in the programs they put together to promote products. They know if they are printing and distributing B1G1 coupons at the same time as they are publishing $$ off coupons. There are expiration dates that overlap and it is not by accident.
Years ago I worked in NYC for Mafco Holdings, which owns Revlon. I can speak from personal experience when I say that the cost of promoting products through coupons is far, far cheaper (like millions and millions) than using any other form of commercial media.

BTW – I agree that $1 off 2 should not be used with a B1G1. The $1 off 2 is specifically telling you that the one coupon applies to two items and more than one manuf coupon can not be used on a single item which is what one would be doing if $1 off 2 was used with a B1G1 when purcahsing 2 items. But, you can use a $1 off 2 and a B1G1 IF you buy 3 items. Using a $$ off of one item with a B1G1 is different from a $1 off of 2 being used in the same situation.

Ok – Anon, let me explain:
You buy the Secret $2.29
Use a .50/1
= $1.29
You buy Olay BW = $5
Get it FREE after $5/1 coupon wyb Secret
Then you buy Lotion $5
You are already getting the BW free.
SO…..how, in nicer terms, do YOU justify using a FREE Lotion wyb Body Wash? You're not paying a PENNY for the BW. You're getting it free.
So…this is stacking. Granted you are getting 3 items, but I highly, highly doubt P&G meant for us to stack like this.
My last and final word:
The scenario above was ALREADY a MM. We didn't do anything that is in a gray area. We are not raising eyebrows – with that being said, why not be satisfied with a MM? Geesh.
I was explaining above – you using a $5 off the lotion WHEN YOU ARE ALREADY GETTING THE BODY WASH FREE IS no different than using an $1/2 AND a BOGO. ??? Geesh. Sometimes I wonder why people just can't be thankful to get a MM, why they have to bend the rules to abuse the system. You cannot tell me P&G intended for us to pay $1.29 and get over $10 worth of stuff free.
End of rant, I'm closing comments.
