Deals are slow right now…..and I’m busy thinking about Turkey Day. Most of you are going to have family drive in for Thanksgiving…..and with that, comes the need for your house to look good and SMELL good.
My house smells like, well……I’ll be honest. A combination of KIDS, Tamales, Dirty clothes……messy bathroom, cookies…………….and too much Febreze. EWWWW. I buy that stuff (for free of course) & HATE it. YUCK. And my 4 year old has a nasty habit of spraying it everywhere, going through a whole can in less than a few hours. Ugh, enough to really drive me insane.
So lets talk about making your own “home grown” air freshener. Something you can do without having to go buy stuff at the store — remember, I’m all about “the freap”:
Remember all that cheap baking soda you have in the cabinet? It’s better than anything you can ever use. Mix 1/4 C. baking soda with water in a spray bottle. Shake well….& spray! The baking soda will absorb the odor. You can add a scent – – like vanilla extract. It works beautifully, and smells great; not only that, it drives (husbands) nuts (hee hee)!
Spray white vinegar (undiluted) in the air. The vinegar smell will dissipate quickly, and will take the odors with it.
To get rid of odors (like fish!) heat white vinegar on the stove –> but don’t boil! Heat it for 30 minutes, and then take off the burner – the vinegar-ish smell will dissipate and take the odors with it.
Wash your walls with white vinegar and a wash rag. Simple…..easy, and best of all? Works better than any other expensive cleaner, without the scent.
Lastly……..remember those Renuzit Crystals? Gosh …I mean, who pays $5.49 for those??? Seriously? Not me. Make your own — TOO easy. Mix 1/2 C. salt and 1/2 C. flour in a bowl. Add 1/4 tsp of essential oil, and 2/3 C. of boiling water & a few drops of your favorite color food coloring to create a custom shade. Blend them all really well, and form into balls, dry, and BAM! Scented rocks!

I agree. I wish I could explain that to my 4 year old after she sprays a whole can in my house. Ew.
