What’s one of the most exciting things kids look forward to the most? Picking out a birthday cake or cupcakes and planning their themed birthday that happens just once each year.
If your kids are anything like mine, they start planning for their birthday party 6 months, 9 months, and even as early as the day AFTER their birthday. Birthdays are important, guys.. I mean, forget about summer break, spring break, even fall break… we can’t possibly ever miss their birthday party.
While cake and party options can range from a sheet cake at Costco to a fully decorated one at Walmart, perhaps even a custom fondant cake made in your own kitchen, my youngest son naturally asks for Iron Man cupcakes.
Because Iron Man is totally, like, seriously like “so savage” (as my boys would say!) Forget rainbow sprinkled cupcakes or a simple party cake, it must be Iron Man and it must be in the right colors – or he totally won’t be cool.
These Iron Man Cupcakes are so stinkin’ easy anyone could put them together – they make the perfect themed birthday party idea or, after school “it’s summer break!” party idea. Perhaps you have kids gathering at your house for a summer celebration – where there are kids, there is Iron Man.
Supplies needed (affiliate links):
- Marvel Avengers Silicone Mold
- Disposable Piping Bags
- 12 ct Cupcake Tin
- Open Star Piping Tip
- Yellow Candy Melts
- Gel Food Coloring
- White Cupcake Liners
Start by preheating your oven and lining your cupcake tin with white cupcake liners. Mix up your cake mix, add in the red food gel coloring and stir to combine. Fill each liner 2/3 full and bake for 18-20 minutes. Allow those cupcakes to cool.
While they are cooling, pour the candy melts into a microwave safe dish, and heat in 30 second increments until melted. Spoon them into the Iron Man mold, and then allow to set in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Remove from the fridge and pop the heads out of the mold – repeat until you have 16 Iron Man heads.
Add your red food coloring to the white frosting and stir to combine – then attach the frosting tip to the disposable piping bag and fill with red frosting. Squeeze the frosting from the bag and onto the top of the cupcake – place an Iron Man candy on top. Repeat until you are done – then get ready to present the cupcakes to your kiddo.
*It helps to pick up two Iron Man molds so you can make more heads quickly – you can use them later on to make Iron Man soaps for your kids, too!
These Iron Man Cupcakes are perfect for any themed birthday or celebration!
