The Lava River Cave is just 30 minutes away from Flagstaff, Arizona. The cave itself was formed 700,000 years ago - at that time, molten lava erupted out of nearby Harts Prairie. The cave was founded in 1915 by lumbermen in the area.

How to Get a Musty Smell out of Bath Towels

Frugal Living

300_198045

Because we’re all human, every few weeks your bath towels may take on the musty smell – I know ours do… and today I’ll be fixing that problem by trying to get the musty smell out.

The musty smell is created from many different things – it signals that you still have bacteria on your towels – perhaps you didn’t scrub your body well enough in the shower before drying off, or, you have been hanging your towels on “hooks” where they are still bunched up and unable to properly air dry.

OR you are using too much detergent – too much build-up can lead to stinky towels as well, as can using fabric softener on towels (which is a big no-no, as fabric softener actually creates a waterproof layer – not what you need with towels!)

  • Put your "like" colored towels in the Washer.
  • Wash in hot water with 1 1/2 c. Vinegar
  • Use no detergent
  • Do a second wash in hot water – no vinegar, just detergent
  • Dry – hang outside if possible.

What also works just as well is washing them in 1/2 c. Borax – you can find Borax for $2.99 at Target, and Fry’s as well (just a bit more). Use Vinegar in the rinse cycle as well.

I use vinegar in all of my laundry now! It really helps cut soap scum. I use borax on my husbands gym clothes for an added boost (He comes home completely drenched)

It will work on all laundry. I follow the vinegar with baking soda.
