Just recently I had a reader ask what I use to clean my floors. I don’t think I have ever shared that on the blog ~ I have shared everything else I use… homemade laundry soap, DIY cleaner, and more…
The shelves in all of the grocery stores are SO full of products … quite honestly I get overwhelmed going down those aisles because I always think some of the manufacturers really just compete with themselves for the next scent, invention and more. Obviously so, they are in the business of cleaners so they market to the masses.
And clearly, some people love that stuff — my mother in law loves all of those bottles, bright colors and what not. She gets excited to find them on sale. I don’t have time for it… I’m just weird like that, I love my own.
Making your own is so easy, and cost effective – most of the same items I have around the house that I use for other things I can use for my floors so it’s just less stress to push those items to the side of my brain that doesn’t need to think about them.
We have BOTH Tile and Wood in our house .. I use this recipe {Below} on the tile. I do mop my wood, and for that I use Young Living Thieves Cleaner.
I love Thieves Cleaner for everything around my house, but I mop SO MUCH that it’s just easy for me to reach below the cabinet of the sink and throw in a glug of this and a shake of that.
This recipe is not a science, and I am not a scientist – I don’t use measuring cups to measure out, I just go with what feels great and it tends to work for me.
I use my sink for the mop water, and I fill it about half full with hot water. Then I throw in a few squirts of Dish Soap, a few glugs of vinegar, and a few shakes of washing soda.
I don’t count water as an ingredient since it’s something we all have so abundantly.
Easy Make Floor Cleaner
- 2-3 gallons Hot Water
- 1/4 C. Vinegar
- 1/4 C. Washing Soda
- 2-3 squirts of Dish Soap
Mop your floors, rinse the mop when you are done, and put that mop outside to dry for next time.
