I’d be curious to know if any of you have ever used Wool Dryer Balls – I was lurking on Pinterest the other night and saw a few pictures of them, and so have been googling online to see more information on them.
You can buy them in the store – but why would I want to do that when I can potentially do it myself? Obviously hanging clothes outside is the best bet, but in the months that it’s cold, that’s not so good of an idea.
Wool Dryer Balls are a great do it yourself project… that are perfect for cutting down dryer time. They also eliminate the need for fabric softener (unless you must have the smell of Downy on your clothes).
I found a tutorial on DIY Dryer Balls… I’m thinking of going for it and giving it a shot. Have you ever tried them, or do you own the commercial dryer balls with the “spikes”? If you use them has it cut down your dryer time?

I just made some a few weeks ago, and so far I really like them. After a little allergy “event” in a laundry room on our cruise, we found my husband it allergic to fabric softener. So out it went. I like them so far, it really does cut down on drying time. For a large load, lets face it I stuff my washer, it takes between 40-50 min instead of 70 before. I read that fabric softeners and dryer sheets coat your clothes and that makes them take longer to dry too, so part of it may be we aren’t using that too.

Never heard about it taking longer to dry but fabric softeners and dryer sheets due leave a coat on your clothes. I can’t use it on any of my workout gear as it actually ruins the drying mechanisms in the fabric so I just use free & clear detergent and it gets hung up in the bathroom to dry.

same here, I dont use softener for the same reason – plus it puts a coating of garbage on my cloth diapers… which makes them less absorbant. Can’t have that.

I put vinegar in my downy ball and I think it works great as a softener, our jeans are softer now than with the downy

I might try the balls with spikes eventually as fabric sheets seem to cost a fortune lately!

I tryed the spike ball one and it put a dent in my dryer…

I have been out of fabric sheets for a while now and the static is unreal in my clothes. Do these help with that? I unfortunately cannot hang our stuff outside because both my husband and I are allergic to just about anything that grows…it’s just awesome!…only not really.

I have the “spikey” dryer balls that I used for a long time, but they’re just so noisy! With the laundry room very close to our baby’s room I haven’t been using them because he’s a very light sleeper. I wouldn’t say they’re great otherwise, but they work alright. Cut down a little on drying time I think. Lately I just haven’t been using anything because I too don’t like adding the chemicals to our clothes, (or baby’s diapers!) I think I will try the wool ones…thanks for the tip!
