Very few of you know me on a deep personal level, but those of you who do would know that I’m a gal who loves to reuse, repurpose and scour online to find neat uses for almost everything & anything.
It drives David crazy, but after ten years, he’s fairly used to my wild ideas.
One of my closest buds shared this great DIY tip today, and I couldn’t help but share – although it won’t appeal to the masses, it may appeal to some of you, because I know there are a few of you out there that are very similar to me in your mentality. You can actually find it on Pinterest as well. For those of you on Pinterest you can find me on there HERE as well. I don’t get a chance to be on there a lot, but now & then I like to see what I can find.
Some of you have probably purchased the fragrance Wallflowers at Bath & Body Works (& other places), and used them at home. I’m not a huge fan of Glade, Air Wick or any of that, so you wont usually find it in my house & if you do, I give it away as gifts.
I’m always scared to keep Glade Plug Ins, I fear they’ll start on fire and I have always known that the contents within those fresheners are subject to be somewhat volatile – they have Volatile Organic Compounds in them that are pretty toxic – which can affect your pets, give you headaches, and (part of me) thinks that they are linked to cancer as well.
Now don’t assume I’m some weirdo .. that’s just my thoughts – everyone has their own opinion. Anyways, you can actually put those fragrance bulbs to better use, and save yourself future spending on them, if you can’t bring yourself to toss out the used bulb. Take out the wick in the top, empty out the bulb and rise out well.
Pour some Essential Oil into the bulb – anything from Lavender, to Orange, Rose, or even Peppermint. Fill it until it’s 1/2 full, then add water to top it off… but not too full, as the wick has to go back in.
There you go – a smell-good Wallflower, that doesn’t break the bank, and is a little bit safer for you to use than those sold in the commercial market.
Thanks Steph!

Sheryl –
Where do you find/purchase your essentials oils? Are you referring to the small bottles of oils that you find in the “health” section at Whole Foods etc?
Thx

I always get mine from Botanic Choice (www.botanicchoice.com) – if you search the blog I believe I usually post them with free ship codes, last time I got 5 bottles for $10 shipped and am still using them now :)

Awesome!! I don’t have any wallflowers, but if I ever get one as a gift I will definitely use this. In fact I think I might just go out and buy one (when B&B Works has a sale or coupon LOL).

I tried this once and it did work, but not for too long. The mixture evaporated away pretty quickly. Maybe I should try it with more oil than water.
