Earlier today I posted about Dryer Balls, and how (this weekend) I’m going to tackle that project. Some of you commented that you don’t use Fabric Softener… nor do I!
I haven’t used Fabric Softener for years; I know (my hubby) loves the smell of clothes with Downy… but no no no! Fabric softener puts a film on your clothes that makes them less absorbent; the film wears down the fibers faster. Therefore, I don’t use it – on anything. It’s ironic to use them on towels, as the purpose of a towel is to dry you off, but it won’t do as good of a job if it’s not as absorbent.
So I use vinegar – it rinses out all the residue, and it helps hold color as well (as it rinses the dingy yucks out). If I feel like putting a scent with it, I use a couple drops of essential oil (I use cotton for my laundry). I use 1/2 c. of vinegar in the rinse cycle, easy as that.
But….. something you may not know, is that you can toss your clean clothes in the dryer with a large wadded up ball of aluminum foil – it acts as a conductor to attract static. When the clothes are done, they will not stick. Better yet, you can actually leave it in there for a few weeks at a time.
Bet you learned something new today… didn’t you?! :)

Great idea! When do you put the vinegar and essential oil in the wash? Do you put it in the fabric softener dispenser at the beginning?

Awwww! I will pretend that this was written just for me cause I commented on it for the felt balls. Thanks! I will do this right now as I am just about to chuck my towels in the dryer and was dreading them shocking the snot out of me when I removed them :)
