I have a really super reader that is excellent at finding great ways to reuse and repurpose almost everything we live with…
Yesterday she told me about a way to make a very inexpensive air freshener.. (which I will post later!) Today she emailed me & let me know how we can give a second life to the Brewed Coffee Grounds in our K-Cups (from the Keurig) or even a regular coffee pot.
She says:
Do NOT throw away brewed coffee grounds! Well yes, I know some people will run it through one more time and get one more brew out of it. I do that with my teabags. But I’m talking about using it as a beauty treatment. Some believe that caffeine used as a scrub is good for cellulite.
Those darn K-cups are expensive as it is. Open up that spent K-cup into the palm of your hand, add a dab of hand/dish soap & water until it is sudsy, and "wash" your hands like you normally would. It’s a great exfoliator and will make your hands soft. I have tried this and it works.
Coffee grounds on a larger scale from an old school coffee maker can also be saved for another project. Dry them out on a cookie sheet – here in AZ just set them out in a sunny spot to dry them quicker (no sense wasting electricity in the oven). Once dry, store them in a Ziploc until you have about 2 cups of grounds.
Anti-Cellulite Cinnamon Coffee Scrub:
- 2 cups coffee grounds
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 6 T favorite oil (not coconut oil, as it’s a solid except during AZ summer months)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2-3 drops cinnamon essential oil
Mix it all together in a bowl, and then transfer to container with a lid. You can get a pretty glass jar (one of those gasket-type canning jars) and put a ribbon and spoon around it (get them cheap at Goodwill or Salvation Army) and gift it to someone!
Directions: Scoop a little bit onto your skin the shower and rub in a circular motion, leave on for a couple of minutes if you wish, then rinse off.
Thanks M.!

Can you use decaf for the 2nd idea??
MJ Taylor says
Yes, it’s just an exfoliant. The coffee grounds and the sugar just serve the purpose of exfoliating dead skin cells. The only true anti-cellulite treatment out there is being a 1 year old baby. :-)
