Just a few days after Halloween, I picked up cheap Pumpkins at Fry’s – they were just $.20 each. I couldn’t pass them up!
If you stocked up on those cute pumpkins for a Thanksgiving Décor Opportunity & you are willing to part with a few of them.. grab some Soy Wax Flakes & make yourself a few candles to give as gifts. We made some for my daughter’s teacher yesterday.
I’m horrible at pouring though, and my kids broke my measuring cup so I ended up getting wax on everything.
Here’s an easy step by step:
Start by cutting the top off the Pumpkins with a knife, and scoop out the inside (strings and seeds) with a spoon.
Use the Soy Wax Flakes from the Craft Store (make sure you use weekly coupons to save on the box!) and pour the flakes into a pot – I used a double broiler to do this. If you don’t have a double broiler you can put a metal bowl over a pot of boiling water in the stove & pour the flakes in that bowl.
Melt on medium heat, make sure you don’t walk away… you want to make sure you are there when it all melts.
Once melted pour in your scent (you can use Essential Oils like I did.. or pick up Fragrance for Candles at the craft store).
Remove from the heat; put the wax clips into the center of the pumpkin – use clothespins balanced on the top to hold them in place from moving around. It’s tricky… so be patient.
Pour the wax carefully in each pumpkin. Wait for the wax to harden overnight ( we went to bed & then checked on the min the morning )… Once the wax is dry, snip the ends of the wicks down with a scissors.
