At the request of a reader curious to know how you can make your own stain remover – I’ll be the first to admit I won’t buy Tide, Tide Stain Release or any other Stain fighters you pay for in store. Some of you may assume that my kids don’t get dirty – when in fact I have 3 and they dirty up their clothes worse than I have ever when I was a kid. My kids are notorious for grass stains, rolling in the dirt, writing on themselves with marker, and everything else that kids are known to do – I just chose to make my own because it’s easier and less expensive.
This comes at a a great time this week – Walgreens has Hydrogen Peroxide (W Brand) B1G1 FREE – makes it even more economical on your budget.
Homemade Oxy Clean
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
Make this recipe as you need it……do not save it for later. Any leftover would lose potency……with time that is. Mix the stuff….add clothes and soak for 20 minutes (or overnight like I do). In the a.m., rinse & wash as usual. The solution makes about 2 cups.
OR……you can do this:
Another great homemade spot remover you can make is by combining equal parts of liquid dish soap, ammonia and water in a spray bottle, shake & spray spot.
I realize not everyone will jump on the bandwagon and leave their Tide behind – but if you are willing to give it a shot, you’ll find it to be much less expensive and just as effective on the name brand items you currently have in your laundry room.
