Use all that cake mix from Fry’s this week to make some inexpensive Cake Pops – with Betty Crocker Cake Mix and Frosting!
Just last December I picked up a deal on a Babycakes Cake Ball Maker. It’ s a machine designed to help me make cake balls with the use of a machine in lieu of my hands. Somehow during my move to the new house I have mis-located that maker.. which is fine because honestly – I can make them myself.
Easy 3-Ingredient Cake Balls
1 Box Cake Mix
1 Tub of Betty Crocker or Pillsbury Frosting
1 flat of Almond Bark – vanilla or chocolate
Make your cake mix per the box directions – in a 9×13 pan – let cool. Now, tear up the cake and put in a big bowl. If you have to use the food processor to make it look like dirt that is a wise choice too.
Add a tub of your store bought frosting. Squish your frosting into your cake until it’s like Play-Doh. Yes, it’s going to be a little weird..but trust me on this one, it’ll turn out just fine ;)
Now, make balls with your hands – about 1-2 inches in diameter. Place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. You can refrigerate overnight, or just a few hours – you decide.
Melt the almond bark – in the microwave (I suggest a few squares at a time as it will cool fast if you do too much), or, in the saucepan on the stove. Take out your cake balls – I suggest a few at a time (as if you do too many they’ll get too soft & hard to handle!) Try to find a plastic throw-away fork, and break the middle 2 tines off of it. Use it as your dipping fork.
Dip the cake balls into the melted bark, and set aside on wax paper to dry. If you so choose, take a square of the white almond bark, melt it, and use it as drizzle over your chocolate cake balls or vice versa.
DO NOT REFRIGERATE! Just let them sit on wax paper to dry. Store them loosely covered and they’ll keep for a few days……well, that is, if you haven’t eaten them all by then!
