Do you have a ton of toothpaste? We actually don’t at the present time, I know that’s pretty sad to admit given that I actually post great toothpaste deals almost daily… the sad story is that it’s hard for me to get to the store to do those deals so right now we have one tube..
And, I have to admit I have 2 smaller kids that take pride in squeezing the content out of the tubes (or, actually putting the tube in their mouth – which is nasty!)
One tube. Yikes!
If you have too MUCH on your hands, or, you are facing an abundance of toothpaste, the non-gel variety is always a good option to stock up on. Unlike the gel, you can use it for many things around the house.
Considering we’re always trying to save, that may be a great way to cut costs in certain areas – check out some unique ways to use up all that non-gel toothpaste:
Remove those scuff marks. My 5 year old loves to make scuff marks.. I can’t stand it, but my boys just think it’s funny. I just use a tad bit of non-gel toothpaste and rub them off with a soft cloth. Scuff marks disappear and my son thinks he has a new pair of shoes.
Clean your piano keys. Piano keys are essentially elephant teeth. So why not clean with toothpaste? The non-gel toothpaste works wonders – use a toothbrush to scrub with the toothpaste, and then wipe them down with a damp cloth. Modern pianos have plastic covering the keys – but it works just as well nonetheless!
Clean your shoes. You know..the rubber part of your shoes? Use the non-gel toothpaste to clean them. It works better than any other cleaner you’ll buy at the store.
Clean your Clothes Iron. You know that black gunk that gets on the plate of your iron? Well clean it with non-gel toothpaste, and rinse off (make sure the iron is cool of course).
Clean your jewelry: watch band, rings, etc. The mild abrasive in the non-gel toothpaste works wonders! Just make sure to rinse the jewelry carefully once you’ve cleaned it…don’t get water in your watch!
Clean those baby bottles. I didn’t use bottles with my kids, but when I was working with Gwendolyn, I used to have to pump at work. I kept the milk in bottles to transport home – but after a while, even washing daily, they would start to inherit an odor. Simply squeeze non-gel toothpaste into the bottles & scrub with a bottle brush to rid the odor.
De-Fog your Mirror…..While Showering. Do you get out of the shower to see your bathroom mirror all foggy? Spread a little non-gel toothpaste onto the mirror, and wipe off before stepping into the shower. When you exit the shower, your mirror won’t be foggy! Yay! You can also use toothpaste on goggles with the same effect – no fog!
Toothpaste works to shine chrome. Why buy the expensive chrome cleaners out there in the store when you can use non-gel toothpaste? The mild abrasive will work just as well, if not better. Dabble it on your chrome, and buff with a soft, dry cloth. Instant shine.
Non-gel toothpaste is a great substitute for bathroom cleaner. If you have children or a spouse like me, you probably find blobs in the sink every morning, noon, and night. Take your sponge, and scrub – you’ll make great use of their waste, while cleaning the sink at the same time. Not only that, your drain will have a better odor.
Cleans crayon marks off your walls! Are you a magic eraser addict? Don’t need one for crayon marks…..toothpaste does the trick. Grab your toothpaste & rag (or brush) and start scrubbing. The abrasive within the paste will take away the crayon marks. Just scrub & rinse.
Hang Posters up on your wall. Dabble a bit of toothpaste under the corners of the poster, and stick use to put up your posters. The poster comes down easily, and won’t make any holes on your paint.
Fill in holes in the wall. Toothpaste has the same consistency as the spackle stuff you throw up in the hole. Just let it dry & paint right over it.
As an air freshener in your car! Squeeze a small amount of toothpaste onto a the center of a paper towel. Roll or fold the towel up. Place under the seat.
When the car is left in the warm sunshine it will heat up and the toothpaste will release a nice soft mint smell into your car.
