It’s not quite summer but kids are home (and have been) for the last few weeks. Are they bored yet? Kids everywhere have had to adapt to long days without park access and swimming lessons. Kids everywhere are stuck indoors for longer periods of time than they are used to.
Being stuck at home can sometimes make for a really boring day – especially if your kids tire easily of the same things. While we have been home, too, we’ve been doing a lot of walks and hikes to get outside and get fresh air.
But not everyone can do that!
Before long, those two words start to creep up… “I’m bored”. Parents everywhere set in a frenzy trying to keep kids busy and occupied. Have no fear – I’ve got a few things up my sleeve that will have your kids back to their normal selves!
I’m Bored Jar for Kids
Growing up in the country in a rural town, I don’t ever remember being bored as a kid. If and when we were, my mom would push us outside and tell us to get busy and find something to do. There wasn’t anything like video games or handhelds to keep us busy. It was just us kids, our bikes, and lots and lots of lizards.
We used to tip over all the rocks and logs and see how many lizards we could catch and toss them in the plastic baby pool. I remember catching 43 lizards. Then, just like that, my brothers would lift the side of the plastic pool and BAM! All the lizards would go scattering in a million different directions.
Fun times for sure.
I’m Bored Jar for Kids – get the printable
While this printable I’m Bored Jar for kids isn’t exactly anything like outdoor lizards, it is perfect if you have kids stuck at home without anything to do. Print out the pages and cut them out… then stuff in a jar. When your kids get bored, have them pull one out of the jar and back to being busy they go.
Keep the jar high up on the shelf so that they can pull it down any time they need to. …. and watch them bond with each other as they discover that that they aren’t really even bored at all. They just needed a gentle push to get creative.
