Just a few weeks ago we were fortunate to have the opportunity to review the NeilMed Neti Pot – it’s something that my husband uses daily and we do incorporate essential oils into our use of that Neti Pot, too. Melaleuca and Rosemary work wonderful for him and he has bottles in both bathrooms just in case someone is using one and he has to hurry before work.
What I love about the Neilmed products (the Neti Pot, and the Oral Aspirator) is that they are a natural method … in a time when we would prefer to stay out of a doctor’s office, and rely on drug-free options, they give us that do nothing but destroy their gut flora & make it really hard to get that flora back to normal.
Just as helpful as the Neti Pot, is the NeilMed Nasal Oral Aspirator – it’s designed with children in mind and it makes parents lives easier (and kids healthier too). We are lucky to be blessed with some very healthy children — while I think that is due in part to our health AND food choices up until this point… having a natural option for easing their breathing and congestion has been invaluable.
Especially considering we have a 2 year old and a 4 year old who still get occasional congestion (and it seems to be worse with the horrible air quality here in Phoenix in the summer). They can’t blow their nose like the older two can – and when you have a baby, they can’t exactly communicate like the older kids can either.
It’s even more important that our smallest are able to breathe properly in times of congestion when they are breastfeeding – and it’s for this reason that I am excited to be able to have this opportunity to use the Oral Aspirator for our fifth child too (it certainly helped with our last two). When a breastfeeding child can’t breathe properly they have a hard time getting the nutrients and antibodies they need from me. Breastfeeding is one of the best ways to keep your littles healthy in a time when their immune system is developing… it has been invaluable to us for their health.
Usually when I mention this Aspirator to people, their first response is “eww! YUCK! That’s disgusting!” — that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
It’s NOT disgusting honestly – it’s much cleaner and safer than using a bulb syringe (which is always given to you at the hospital when you have kids). Those bulb syringes are extremely disgusting to use on your kiddos – they can accumulate mold and are not that easy to clean. With the first 4 kids, I found it impossible to use — they all hated the syringe and would push away and turn their head when they saw it come anywhere near their face.
The Oral Aspirator from NeilMed can be used as either a NasaBulb Aspirator OR as an Oral Suction. It’s extremely easy to disassemble so you can sterilize it (we prefer to do this on the stove, but you can also do it in the microwave).
While bulb syringes can carry hidden mold, you don’t have to worry with the Naspira – it has a clear barrel & tubing, is high grade silicone – and has disposable filters. Those disposable filters prevent the mucus from entering the tubing and transferring to the mouth… so while many may think you are sucking up snot, you really aren’t at all :)
Cleaning the Aspirator & Oral Suction
The parts on the Aspirator pull apart for easy cleaning – and it has a lifetime warranty (and is dishwasher safe with the exception of the disposable filter).
If you haven’t tried the NasaBulb or Oral Suction, you can pick up a discount of $3 OFF when you head to NeilMed.com – use code MOMSBLOG. Shipping is FREE on orders of $30 or more, too.
You will score the Naspira and 7 disposable filters (one on the product, and 6 additional as pictured far above) as well as the bulb & tubing.
If you have kids (even little babies) it’s a must to have in a new baby kit, or even to gift to someone who has just recently had a baby. Even if YOU have a baby, it’s a great (and relatively cheap) investment to make for relief of their stuffy nose and congestion your baby may face from the onset of birth and the first few years of their life.
