We rarely .. and I mean, rarely, see coupons for 20 Mule Team Borax. But last week we scored one… for $1 off ONE 20 Mule Team Borax. IF you haven’t ever picked up a box, you can find it in the laundry care aisle at your local Target.
Most other retailers have it as well.
I don’t buy Borax all too often, not because I don’t like it but because the box truly does last a VERY long time. We use it at our house for laundry, mopping, scrubbing the toilet, tubs & more. I use it in my laundry to give my clothes a boost, and we also use it to clean the garbage disposal.
Just last week I used it to clean up puke off my carpet from my oldest being sick – which was super, since it saved me from having to rent a Rug Doctor. We rounded up 12 uses for Borax that you can put to use after you pick up a box.
Carpet Cleaner. Add 1/4 C. to the toilet bowl, let sit overnight, scrub brush in the morning and flush.
All Purpose Cleaner. Mix 1/2 C. Borax, 1 C. Vinegar and the rest of your spray bottle water… and use it to clean your bathrooms, and counter tops – just make sure you use hot water to dissolve the mixture and give it a good shake.
Homemade Soft Scrub. Mix equal parts Borax & Baking Soda,
Kill Weeds. Mix up 10 oz. of Borax in 4 oz. of Warm Water – dissolve well then add another 2 gallons of water and mix – spray that on your weeds.
Floor Cleaner can be mixed up with a simple 1/2 C. Borax and 1 Gallon of hot water – you can also add a small amount of ammonia – mop your tile.
Clean your Grout with a paste of Borax & water, using a toothbrush – get busy on your hands & knees and knock out one room each day.
Clean your Garbage Disposal with Borax by dumping in 1/4 – 1/2 Cup and following with 1/2 C. Warm Water. Let sit overnight, run in the morning.
Stain Treater. Have a bad stain? Treat it with 1/2 C. Borax dissolved in 1 C. Warm Water. Let soak for 30 minutes before washing.
As a Pesticide. Sprinkle Borax around your home, taking caution if you have kids. I usually sprinkle it mixed with a little sugar, in the box in the front yard that has the water meter…. because the cockroaches love to hide out in there with the moisture. They’ll eat that powdery mixture and the borax blows up their intestines to kill them in a short period of time.
Car Wash Detergent can be mixed up really quickly with 1/4 C. Borax and Gallons of Lukewarm Water.
Kill Fleas OR Freshen Carpets. If you have pets that have fleas, and you have fleas in your carpet sprinkle Borax on the carpet – let it sit overnight as you rest. Vacuum in the morning to remove the borax.
Give your Laundry a Boost by adding in 1/2 C. of Borax into the wash cycle.
Freshen your Mattress. At some point many of us have kids that might have trouble potty training – if this sounds like you.. and you have had kids wet the mattress at some point, dampen the area on the mattress where they had an accident and sprinkle with Borax – let dry. Once dry then vacuum well.
Make your Own Laundry Soap. Use Borax, Fels Naptha, and Washing Soda to put together your own laundry soap.
Unclog your Drain. Just like Drano works to unclog your drain … so does Borax. In a pinch, or when you don’t feel like spending $5 on Drano, pour 1/2 C. of Borax down the drain. Then follow with 2 C. of Water and let it sit for 20 minutes – flush with water to help with the stoppage. (You can also use Alka Seltzer Tablets down your drain, too – just chase them with 1 – 2 C. of Hot Water and cover the drain to let it do its work!
