15 BEST Deals to Buy at Costco

Over the last few months we have seen several opportunities to purchase a Costco Membership – some of you have jumped on the deal, and you have probably made a visit or two to the Warehouse.

Several years ago I would have never picked up a membership – but over the years I have changed the way in which we shop – several children later, my time is more important to me than racing to the store to find an empty shelf or get the next latest freebie that I really may not essentially need.

Usually when I shop, it involves ALL 4 children – because they love to elbow & jab each other while we are out, I try to limit trips… we drive a rather large truck that is not fuel efficient, so getting the best deal for the least work is ultimately more appealing to me.

Costco CAN be a bargain if you know what to shop for.

If you learn to break down the item by ounce or serving, in most cases you will find that Costco rivals the regular Supermarket on many if not more items – although not all items are cheaper at Costco, many are – not to mention you don’t have to clip the coupons and deal with the extra frustration of finding empty shelves & shifting coupon policies.

I rounded up our favorite 15 items at Costco – there are probably more… but these items below are what we usually reach for when we head to the warehouse.

Coconut Oil –  We pick up a 72 oz. Tub for just over $20 – although it takes us a while to use it, that’s the best price we have found on it without having to pay shipping fees at another retailer or waiting for the price to drop on Amazon.  I don’t know how many of you Oil Pull but I do every day … a spoon of oil each day for both of us makes it go pretty quick not to mention we use it to cook.

Pure Vanilla Extract – I think the price of the Vanilla is amazing – you can score the 16 oz. bottle of Pure Vanilla Extract for just $9.99.   

Organic Peanut Butter: We scored (2) 28 oz. Tubs for just $10.00 – although we can get Maranatha for just around $5 at Walmart, it’s just easier to toss two tubs in the cart at Costco. 

Organic Bread:  They have Dave’s Killer Bread AND Alpine Organic Bread – and although you can get it at the regular store, you can get 2 for $7.00 or less at Costco. Good deal in our book, we get 4-6 at a time and freeze.

Trash Bags –  We pick up the Kirkland Signature Drawstring Bags, in a box of 200 for just $14 – without coupons, that is just $.07 per bag. They work SUPER for us… they hold up super well unlike other lesser priced bags.

Organic Butter –  Last time I was there I picked up 2 pounds for just over $10 – which I thought was a bargain.. Or opt for regular butter .. 4 lbs is just over $10.

Condiments.  We picked up the 2 pk 27 oz. Tub of Hampton Foods Real Mayo for just under $5 – the Mayo is REALLY good stuff – Egg Free, Dairy Free, Non-GMO… it is not yet at all Costco stores but it is at ours – it’s really high quality and I feel like it’s a really good bargain for the size.

Chocolate Chips – If you do any baking, these are a terrific deal – no need to watch a store for sales. Just buy the bigger bag.

Organic Canned Tomatoes:  are a bargain there!  They break down to $.63 – $.80 depending on the variety (Diced, Paste, etc.)

Organic Refrigerated Tortillas – We prefer the Refrigerated variety that you heat on a griddle- they have them priced at $7 for 36 – which lasts us about 2 weeks. 

Cheese – Cheese is a total bargain there – if you eat Organic Cheese, they have it for just $7 per pound – we usually get one each week. If you don’t eat Organic cheese, they have the 32 oz Blocks of regular Monterey Jack or Sharp between $4.50 – $5.00.

Toilet Paper – This varies by month – but most months they have a pretty spectacular deal on toilet paper… where we can pick up huge packs for $.15 per Roll.  Although it’s not free, I can’t ever seen to find it on the shelf at the market and when I do, the limits of 3 like coupons costs me more in fuel than if I just picked up the huge pack at Costco.

Ziploc Bags – score 500 for just under $9, which is 1.7 cents per bag – usually I won’t pay more than $1.29 for a box of Ziplocs, and to get that price I usually have to wait for coupons & a sale.

Vinegar – I can score 2 HUGE gallons for under $3.50… I use it for my fabric softener, and cleaning the house – so it goes quite a long ways… there is no reason for me to clip a coupon for anything like Snuggle or pay for Dryer sheets when Vinegar works just as well (and costs less).

Organic Frozen Vegetables – These are a super buy – you can pick up the Organic Broccoli for just $5.99 in the 4 lb Bag, which is $1.50 per pound… they are in a 4 pk of steamable bags.

Depending on the month, we usually pick up Finish Dish Tabs too – every few months they have a sale on the Powerball that make them even better than the grocery store sale stacked with coupons. It’s cheaper for me to buy them on sale at Costco when they feature them in their monthly book than for me to buy 8 papers and find empty shelves because we have a $2 coupon floating around.
