Epsom Salt - 15 Uses

Chances are, if you love taking baths, you have Epsom Salt at home. I just got a bag two nights ago at Walmart – 4 lbs was $2.50 … Costco is JUST as inexpensive.

Epsom salt is made up of the compound magnesium sulfate. The earliest discovery of magnesium sulfate came about in Epsom, England.  Many people have a magnesium deficiency……….which can lend way to health problems.

Likewise, many plants also have a magnesium deficiency – that’s why you see some plants with curled up leaves.  It’s a great idea to help keep the magnesium level regular in your body by taking frequent Epsom Salt Baths (reference below).

Here are 15 ideas to put that Epsom Salt to work:

Green up your Grass. Add 2 tablespoons per 1 gallon of water and spread on your yard with a yard sprayer. The magnesium and iron will enrich your soil and in turn, green up your grass.

Relaxing Bath.  Add 2 Cups to your Bath and soak – you can also add any essential oils too.

Use in the Garden. Add 1 tablespoon per 1 gallon of water and spray it on your garden plants every 7-14 days.

Clean your Tile. Whether it be your floor or your bathroom tile, mix with Dawn Dish Soap in equal amounts and scrub.. it works great to take off that grime.

Frosting your Windows.  Be festive for the holidays and mix 1 1/2 c. of boiling water with 1 C. of Epsom Salts and 3 Tablespoons of dish soap – sponge it on your windows for a frosted look at Christmas.

Facial Scrub.  Mix a spoon with your cleanser at night or in the morning and scrub your face.

Treat Bug Bites.  Soak your washcloth in 2 Tablespoons Epsom Salt to 2 Cups of water and lay it over your bites or stings.

Fabric Softener Crystals. Mix 4 C. of Epsom Salt withi 20 Drops of your favorite Essential Oil to make your own Softener Crystals. Use 1/4 C. per load.

Sunburn Treatment.  Dissolve 2 Tablespoons of Epsom Salt in 1 C. Water and place in a spray bottle to spray on your sunburn.

Fertilize your House Plants. Add 1 Tablespoon per gallon of water to your house plants.

Ward off Insects. Mix Epsom Salt with Water and add to a spray bottle to ward off insects.

As a Laxative. Mix 1 Tablespoon Epsom Salt with 8 oz. of Water and rink the mixture to relieve yourself of constipation.

Weed Killer. Mix 2 Cups with 1Gallon of Vinegar and add 5 Tablespoons of Liquid Dish Soap (like Dawn) and spray your weeds.

Deep Clean your Hair. Mix 1 Tablespoon with your Shampoo to act as a deep cleaner for your hair.

Soften your Dry Feet.  Put 1/2 C. Epsom Salt in 1 Gallon of Water and Soak your feet up to 30 minutes. Scrub with a loofah for soft feet.
