Household Tip: Using Listerine to Mop your Floor

Frugal Living

44

I have blogged about this topic before and gotten some fairly “odd” responses. I use Listerine to mop (when I’m out of Borax) – have you?

By now you should have quite a bit of Listerine in your house from shopping at Walgreens last week. If you do, you don’t have to use it to clean your mouth – you can also use it on your floor.

Use Listerine + Vinegar as solution to mop  – Vinegar is a natural cleaner, and the Listerine (which has thymol = serves as a fungicidal agent and works great on bacteria)……

I recommend also putting half and half in the spray bottle for shower walls as well.

Have you ever thought of using Listerine to mop?

I have never heard of this before! That is awesome. What kind of flooring do you use it on? Tile? Hard wood?

Great! Thank you SO much. Just yesterday, I was trying to find a better (and cheaper) way to clean my laminate flooring! I hate buying these expensive products that don’t really work! So THANK YOU!

I haven’t tried any – but.. I have used only Listerine. I know that Listerine has Thymol, which have Anti-microbial attributes (hence why it works well). I’m not sure if Crest has that, I have never tried – or, any store brand. I would think so. I’ll have to look when I go to the store next time. We had so much Listerine last year from a sale at Walgreens, and I wanted to find a way to use it all up (I had Crest ProHealth too and hubby likes that better) so I was looking online and found this tip- have been doing it ever since. Dave just thinks I’ve really gone crazy.

Not so weird – Listerine was originally marketed as a floor cleaner. See Wikipedia for more info.

Yes. I use it all the time because it’s better than Lysol and healthier than using bleach. Works fabulous.
