Summer has ended and most of us, stay at home moms now have at least 6 hours to ourselves. Before we dive into the next big reorganization project lets take a minute and make sure to take care of ourselves!
Now….I’ll be honest — I’m not saying go up to the Scottsdale Princess and blow $400 on spa services. The frugal person in me can’t do that. But that doesn’t mean we can’t spoil ourselves a little here and there once in a while.
How? Lots of simple ways you can make sure to take care of yourself while taking care of the whole family. You can do this once or twice a month or every week. Just make sure to throw in one of these recipes in the crock so dinner is done when you pick up the kids from school .
Breakfast
YES – you heard me. Relatively simple and easy — but what happens? We are so busy getting the husband and kids out the door that usually we end up with a cup of coffee that has been reheated 4 times and a handful of granola in our mouth before we start our day.
Sit down and make yourself a great meal, drink the coffee on the first try, heck watch the news if you want. Invite a friend over once she drops off her kids, and heck make an omelette with last night’s leftovers.
Make a Phone Call
Call a friend that may have sent her kids to school too… and talk – even if it’s 15 minutes. The best part is that it will be 15 minutes without ANY interruptions!
Do your Nails or Get them Done
We get so many great deals on makeup I’m sure you have some nail polish to use. Use it!
Once the kids are gone, load the dishwasher and sit down and do this for you. If you are like me and maybe it doesn’t always look great then snag a deal on LivingSocial or Groupon to go and have them done for a fraction of the price
Grab Coffee or Lunch with a Friend
Once the family is gone, why not have lunch with a friend? At a place without a playground?
How about grabbing a deal to try a new place on LivingSocial or Groupon? Do you have an entertainment book? These usually have a BOGO Free meal coupon. Make a point of meeting a friend for lunch or coffee at least once a month.
If you can’t afford it how about packing a lunch and heading to a park, a museum or even visiting your friend’s house? Take turns making a salad for lunch or offering up leftovers, its not what you are eating but the time you are spending with your pal.
Enjoy a Local Attraction
Desert Botanical Gardens have a free entrance day each month. Why not pack a lunch and meet your friend or friends there after school drop off? Enjoy a great walk and nature.
The weather is going to change soon (it is really – you may not think so but eventually it will), so it will also be a great time to head for a quick hike.
