Do you gift personal care baskets at the Holidays? We do – we have, and we have for YEARS. At least the last 5 years we have gifted Personal Care Gift Baskets at the holidays to Sisters in Law, and Brothers in Law.
We have {in past years} done it for the older teens too.
Does that mean we went out and bought a ton of beauty items?
Definitely not.
We took advantage of our sales & couponed items ALL year long, to stockpile items that were FREE, or relatively cheap in price, and kept the in a HUGE cabinet.
We kept in the top shelf of the linen closet.
We shoved bags under the bottom shelf in the pantry.
We used the spaces under the beds, and gosh knows how many other spaces in the house.
We fully admit that we don’t buy STUFF at the holidays – the kids do NOT get gifts – instead, they get experiences – since we are all adults we are well past the “gift me” stage. But beauty baskets are just a tradition here.
But gift baskets are fun. The cost is minimal compared to the savings. It gives us a chance to clean house, and our family members LOVE it. Here are FIVE reasons to consider gifting Personal Care Baskets at the holidays.
#1 – It’s Practical
There is nothing like a practical gift. If you are an adult, you should be way past the gift giving stage – giving or receiving gifts with purpose is so much more meaningful than gifting regular “stuff” – at least we think so.
Giving Health & Beauty Gift baskets is practical – it’s something people can use – everyone showers or bathes … right? (At least we HOPE so!)
#2 – It Saves the Recipient Money
If you prepare in advance, you can spend some time gathering all those items that your family member or friend loves (that are on sale or cheap of course!) — and they will save LOADS of money into the new year.
They won’t have to buy Shampoo, Chapstick, Conditioner, Face Cleanser, Toothpaste, Mouthwash… the list goes on! What better way to help them save than on everyday items.
#3 – It Gives you a Chance to Coupon ALL Year Long
Now… we all know most of us coupon for things; but this gives you an even BETTER reason to go after all those GREAT deals on Personal Care. If you can score Mouthwash for FREE, Toothpaste for FREE, Shave Cream & Shampoo/Conditioner for $.49 or LESS, why not stock up (if you can?)
For many of us, couponing is a way to save money, but it can also be a way to keep busy – it might be a form of therapy for some, addiction for others… use that therapy/addiction in a positive way.
#4 – Clean Out your Cabinets
I will admit I don’t coupon for food because we are so particular about what we eat, but we DO coupon for personal care. Although we make most of our personal care items ourselves, if we can get away with free or cheap deals on Shampoo/Conditioner, Toothpaste & more, we DO stock up.
For one reason: Family Members.
Not everyone loves DIY beauty products, in fact, some people don’t want any part of it – so our cabinets fill up fast with deals we have scored all year. And although we love the security of having a full stockpile of Beauty Items, we LOVE the opportunity we get in December to CLEAN HOUSE.
And my family members love that.
#5 – Recipients will be WOWED by the Power of Coupons
Those family members who may NOT coupon – or, who may or may not support your coupon habit, may see a different side of it after receiving a basket. Especially when you can tell them that you spent spare change to buy odds and ends to pack that basket full.
They might even seek your help in getting started … and there is NO greater feeling than helping others save.
One of the BEST parts of giving gift baskets…..
………..is seeing the faces of those you gift to ~ many women naturally feel guilt doing things for themselves (including buying things for themselves). You might hear them say “wow – I would have NEVER bought myself all these things” – it makes you feel GREAT when you can help someone get the boost they need.

We started doing this after you mentioned it a couple years ago for my BIL for both Xmas & his birthday. And have even been able to include laundry detergent, dish soap and cleaning supplies. He is ALWAYS happy to get his hands on those boxes and bags of stuff!
